| ABC Affiliates Grapple With TV-Show Downloads |

Carl Bialik writes "By making an episode of 'Lost' available for
download last week just half a day after it aired, for a $1.99 charge,
'Apple may have helped open a Pandora's box for the media business,'
the Wall Street Journal reports. The president of the association
representing ABC's affiliate stations sent a letter to the president of
ABC, reading in part, 'It is both disappointing and unsettling that ABC
would embark on a new -- and competitive -- network program distribution
partnership without the fundamental courtesy of consultation' with its
affiliates. While the extent of Apple's TV downloads is limited, the
Journal parses the potential impact: 'if downloading episodes over the
Internet proves popular, analysts believe Apple will get permission to
offer shows with better-fidelity pictures. Any success Apple has won't go
unnoticed by other online media powerhouses with expanding video
initiatives like Yahoo Inc., Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp., which could
all help extend TV downloading to more viewers.'"

I would just like to go on the record saying this is the future, TV on your PC, and it's very very near.

| How long has it been? |
[11 Aug 2005|12:34pm] |
Here is a real post.
School starts soon. I hope I get money in time. I'm sure I will. It's been a good summer. Working mostly as CTS help and starting senior tech duties. I've spent a decent amount of time with Sarah, saw the 'rents a good bit, went to Tyaskin, and messed with the 'puter. I continue to try hard to do the things I know is good for me, like reading, working out, etc. I would like to continue that as well as blog more. I don't find my life particularly novel worthy, but some might, and it's always good to look at my life a little objectively. Blogging would also mean writing practice. I don't write much, and I want to be more... author-istic.
That is all.

I did nothing to celebrate the great french-squashing mexican holiday, but good things did happen. It would take too long to explain the back story and why last night was such a good thing, but let's just say a few bridges were crossed and burned, and Sarah + Me = Happy!
ATTENTION GOUCHER RESIDENTS:
My brother is coming tonight to party! WOOHOO! It will be a fantastic slap-happy good time.
That is all.

So I feel like I should say something, but words don't always come easily, and when words do come, they're not always in an order or fashion that explains what's going on inside.
So let's just say that things are normal, with a little bit of really annoying static.

P.S. Does anyone have an extra brain I can borrow?

So, people on LJ like to update in long lengthy entries. I do it too. Unfortunately, I'm too freakin' lazy to read it all. So, sorry to all of you who don't get comments from me. It's probably cause I was too lazy to read all you wrote.
I'll work on that.

Shut-Up and Smile - Bowling for Soup |

This morning I came to some realizations about some problems I have. Silliness really. Un-based jealousies and pettiness. (etc.) I think I'll stop doing that now.
I'm sitting in this computer lab watching a girl make a power point presentation. Her color scheme is neon pink and purple with light pink text. I'm gonna... *BLARGH* I hope her professor smacks her.
I play tech-boy for a 400 level spanish class. It's generally cake. Turn on a computer, play a videotape, dim the lights, and so forth.
Today the class was making presentations with another class in mexico via video-teleconference. Nifty. Only one guy (as far as I know) has the training to run it and he decided to cancel on the professor this morning without sending a replacement. Now what are we going to do!? The mexican class is calling in now!
[Cue everybody looking at Nick]
*gulp*
Learning a video-teleconfrencing system on the fly is fun. They applauded me at the end.
That made me feel good.
I need to start figuring out which psych and Core class I'm taking in the Fall. I get to register for classes May 5, and I want to register that day so I'm sure to get my classes.
Sarah is wonderful.

| Bad lab partner, bad! |
[25 Apr 2005|09:54am] |

Wednesday we have an in-lab presentation on one of the experiments we did in class and how we would continue it. I exchanged contact info with her last wednesday saying that I would contact her so we could figure out what we were gonna do. We kind of agreed then what we would be doing, but nothing more than, "that sounds like a good idea." So, instead of having to get together with her today to write stuff up, I went a head and wrote up the presentation myself. It didn't really take that long and it wasn't that hard. We now have 2 days to make a visual aid, which I don't think should be too hard. I hope she doesn't mind that I did the write-up work.

I wanna live here. It's like 5 minutes walk from school and well within my price range (assuming Greg lives with me).
Oh, for those that don't know, Greg is Nikki's boyfriend. Nikki lives down the hall from Sarah. Greg is awesome. He lives in New Jersey and we rarely get to hang out. He's recently decided he wants to go back to college, and he likes UMCP (aka, my school!). Living with Greg would be awesome. I mean, I like my current roomates, but my bedroom is really small, it's 4 people in a place, and I live way off campus.
And this place is, as far as I can tell, perfect.
Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please...

So, my weekend was interesting.
Saturday I saw Vinegar Tom. A very interesting play/muscial thing, but enjoyable nonetheless. The cast party was a blast! I got home at like 5 am. I made a brown friend. :-P
Sunday, Sarah was doing Vinegar Tom again. I would've left for home, but Nikki and Alyssa were coming back from West Virginia so I stayed till they got back. Sarah left at about 5 to go for a motorcycle ride. It was at this point that my little world went nuts.

I need to get to class now.

Wanna printer that won't print?
My HP PSC 2210 All-In-One went down a little while ago, so I got a new one. If there's someone out there that wants to buy a non-printing printer, they'll be on eBay.
So, yeah, check it out.

I love it when Microsoft makes estimations.
In case you're wondering, that's from me transferring all my files from my old drive to my new, bigger one. It took a while for it to transfer.
Also, in case you're wondering, were the time accurate, it would've taken 34 years, 17 days, 5 hours, and 26 minutes to complete.
Just slightly off.

John Villegas: My new hero.
Why? He found my digital camera. I don't know where I left it Tuesday, but I'm assuming somewhere in the building at work. I had just really begun to get into to taking pictures and it made me sad to lose it.
But, as I said, John Villegas is my new hero.

My car was making a silly noise last night. I suspect it was the bipolar weather. However, pray for it anyway. A dead car wouldn't do me much good.
Also, my printer died and I'm not sure where my digital camera is.
Also, um, kittens are cute. (Just thought I'd end on a positive note.)
